Supporter Trips

We organise trips for supporters of Reaching the Unreached usually in January/February and October/November for around two weeks. Combining visits to our progammes to meet beneficiaries with local sightseeing - which usually includes the magnificant Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Periyar Tiger Reserve and the backwaters of Kerala - the tours give visitors a means of understanding many of our programmes.  We can also arrange trips for whole groups of friends, or from a parish for example.

“It was an experience of a lifetime and will remain an influence on the rest of my life for sure. It is impossible to thank you enough for making this expedition a reality for me .”

Reaching the Unreached has guest accommodation and everyone is accompanied throughout. If you sponsor one of the children, you will have the opportunity of meeting them and if you have built a house, you will be able to visit the house you have built. All you need to do is arrange your flights, visa and insurance and we'll take care of the rest. The last tour was held in January 2023 and we are hoping that the next one will be able to go ahead at the beginnng of 2024 if possible. Do get in touch to find out more and you can put your name down so that we can contact you when we are planning our next one. You can read Tricia Tyler's account of a visit to RTU from St Andrew's parish in Rushmere in our blog section.

“I feel very privileged to have been to RTU. All the staff are wonderful dedicated people. I am very moved and impressed. I now fully appreciate the effort and impact RTU is making. I hadn't realised how diverse RTU's work is.”

Volunteering

Opportunities for young people from the UK to spend 5 weeks after their A-levels with our house-building programme at Reaching the Unreached are provided by Lasallian Projects. Groups of 12 young people with a leader stay in the guest bungalows and usually manage to help build 10 houses while they are there, as well as spending weekends on various trips out. Visit their Facebook page to find out more.

"I would encourage anyone to seize an opportunity like this. To help others whilst also growing as a person. I thought I would cry the most because I was away from home, from my bed and from my family. I never thought I'd cry because I had to leave the people of RTU. I never thought that two months down the line, I would still be talking about the great experiences I had in India. I miss and cherish every second of India." Shelby Poole, Volunteer

We can also organise two-week visits to help with the housing programme for schools or corporate groups. Again do contact us for further information.

There are other volunteering opportunities but these are limited as most people at Reaching the Unreached only speak Tamil! Please do contact us if you would be interested in volunteering and have a particular skill that you feel would be willing to share.
